Community Classes:

·       Freshstart program by American Cancer Society: program consists of four 1-hour group sessions held during a 2-week period offered by community organizations around the city, for information on possible class locations call 210-595-0211.

·       Not on Tobacco program by American Lung Association: a 10-week program for teens ages 14-19 who want to quit smoking, tel: 210-308-8992.

·       Quit 4 Life program at Spectrum Athletic Clubs: includes 4 classes at certain Spectrum locations along with telephone and email support, corporate packages are available, tel: 210-884-8319, contact Heather King.

·       Tobacco Cessation classes at UTSA: classes and individual counseling sessions are available for UTSA students at both campuses, tel: 210-458-6428, contact Mark Macias.

 

Outpatient Clinical Services:

·       University Health System Health Education Department: a structured program of classes for community members that includes office visits, offered at four different locations throughout  San Antonio, tel: 210-358-7355.

·       Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital: classes offered for military veterans, 7400 Merton Minter, tel: 210-617-5300, contact Bertram Lindo.

·       Lackland Air Force Base: live classes, online classes, and telephone-based support are offered for active duty Air Force members, their spouses, retirees, and LAFB civilian employees; medication support accompanies all three options but is not available to civilian employees, Health & Wellness Center, tel: 210-671-0566.

·       Randolph Air Force Base: live classes, online classes, and telephone-based support are offered for active duty Air Force members, their spouses, retirees, and RAFB civilian employees; medication support accompanies all three options but is not available to civilian employees, RAFB Wellness Center, tel: 210- 652-2300, contact Lorri Tibbetts. 

 

Telephone Support:

·       American Cancer Society Quitline: free telephone-based tobacco cessation counseling, Bexar County residents are also eligible for 2 months of free nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine patches) while supplies last, tel: 1-877-YES-QUIT (English & Spanish). 

·       City of San Antonio employee Quitline by American Cancer Society: a dedicated version of the telephone-based tobacco cessation counseling program for City of San Antonio employees and their spouses, includes free nicotine replacement therapy, tel: 1-866-605-7848.

 

Online Support:

·       EX by the American Legacy Foundation: free online smoking cessation plan customized for each person, includes online exercises, information, and an online support community, www.becomeanex.org.

·       Freedom from Smoking program by American Lung Association: free online smoking cessation program with group support, www.ffsonline.org.

·       Smokefree.gov by the National Cancer Institute: free, evidence-based information online and professional assistance by telephone to help support the immediate and long-term needs of people trying to quit smoking, www.smokefree.gov.

Other Options:

Other options include individual consultation with counseling professionals, hypnotists, acupuncturists, and more. Just be sure to research whether the people performing these services are properly licensed to offer them to you.
